Who we are

Gathered Ink (“we,” “us,” “our”) is operated by Andre Maurice. This policy explains what information we collect through gatheredink.com (the “Service”), why, and what you can do about it. Questions or requests can be sent to support@gatheredink.com.

Information we collect

From hosts (the person creating a portrait):

  • Name and email address, collected when you verify your identity to create or manage a collection.
  • Payment information when you purchase a portrait — we do not see or store your card details directly; payment is processed by Stripe.
  • The names and email addresses of people you choose to invite as contributors.

From contributors (the people you invite, or who join via a public link or QR code):

  • A name, which is required to contribute.
  • An email address, which is optional and only used if you ask us to notify you when the collection is complete — declining does not affect your ability to contribute.
  • The content of your interview — what you share about the person or occasion the collection is for.

Automatically, from anyone using the Service:

  • Basic usage data (pages visited, general device/browser information) collected through Google Analytics, so we can understand how the Service is used and fix problems.
  • A small technical cookie/token used to let you resume an in-progress collection on the same device if you leave and come back — this is not used for advertising or tracking across other sites.

How we use this information

  • To operate the Service: conducting interviews, generating a synthesized portrait, and delivering it to the host.
  • To process payments.
  • To send transactional emails — invitations, host progress updates, one-time codes, and (if you opted in) a notice that a collection you contributed to is complete.
  • To maintain and improve the Service, including diagnosing bugs and understanding usage patterns.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use your interview content for advertising.

Who we share information with

We use a small number of service providers to actually run Gathered Ink. Each only receives the information it needs to do its job:

  • Anthropic — the content of interview conversations is sent to Anthropic's Claude models to conduct the interview and generate the synthesized portrait. This is core to how the Service works.
  • Supabase — our database and hosting provider; this is where account and collection data is stored.
  • Stripe — processes payments; we do not receive or store full card numbers.
  • Resend — sends transactional emails on our behalf (invitations, codes, notifications).
  • Google Analytics — aggregate usage analytics, as described above.

We don't share your information with anyone else, and we don't allow these providers to use your data for their own purposes beyond providing the service to us.

Contributor content and who can see it

A contributor's individual answers are used to generate one synthesized portrait for the host. Contributors do not receive the finished portrait directly — only the host does, and the host decides if and how to share it further. If you contributed and opted in to be notified, you receive a notice that the collection is complete, not the content itself.

Your choices

  • Hosts can remove a contributor from a collection before that contributor has responded.
  • Contributors who want their contribution removed, or have questions about what's stored about them, can contact us at support@gatheredink.com — since contributors don't have accounts, this is currently a manual, email-based process.
  • You can ask us at any time what information we hold about you and request its deletion, subject to what we need to retain for legitimate purposes (like completed transaction records).

Data retention

We keep collection and account data for as long as your account or collection is active, plus a reasonable period afterward for backups and legitimate business records. If you'd like your data deleted sooner, contact us.

Children's privacy

Gathered Ink is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@gatheredink.com and we will remove it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including relying on established providers (Supabase, Stripe) that maintain their own security standards. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we take this seriously.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service changes. We'll update the date at the top when we do. Material changes will be reflected here.
